University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) was established in 2003 through UPES Act, 2003 of the State Legislature of Uttarakhand. UPES is recognized by UGC under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
UPES is Asia’s first core sector university and is the first Indian institution to offer 79 graduate and post graduate programs across 14 core sectors like oil and gas, power, infrastructure, information technology, transportation, electronics, high technology, design, business, planning and architecture, public policy and legal studies.

Accreditation Letter is signed by Dr Dayanand Pandey- Director, SoB with CIMA Officials on 15th Feb 2017 in Delhi.
CIMA has granted 11 exemptions from CIMA’s certificate, operational and management level exams to MBA and BBA Students. University of Petroleum and Energy Studies is hyperlinked on CIMA Website. Through this accreditation with CIMA the students will be able to join CIMA through an accelerated route designed specifically for MBA and BBA graduates of our university.

This would now be offered as a full credit course for the final year to students pursuing B.Tech Chemical Engineering & Refining as an elective subject. The course curriculum will be designed, delivered, assessed and graded by the Officers of PCBL and will cover all aspects of the Carbon Black Industry including manufacturing, Processing, Equipment details, quality, safety and future potential.
UPES IBM academic collaboration is the first ever academic collaboration in the world for B. Tech Computer Science & Engineering courses. Under this academic collaboration, IBM not only helps UPES in designing industry-oriented curriculum to equip students with specialized skills, but also in faculty trainings and guest lectures for students
QS- Qacquarelli Symonds- global higher education analysts has rated UPES ‘5 Stars’ for employability, which is a strong testimony to placements and career service support the University provides to its students. UPES has also received ‘5 Stars’ for facilities and ‘4 Stars’ for teaching from QS. UPES, with overall ‘3 Stars’, is currently the only Indian education institution with QS Star Ratings. The QS Stars ratings system is a new international standard identifying excellence and diversity among the world’s universities. The rating system evaluates universities against a range of important performance indicators based on a rating method.
UPES inks various memorandum of understanding and agreements with industry and academia. The major thrust of these collaborations is to facilitate curriculum inputs, guest lectures, internships opportunities and joint research and projects.
